"gmctavish needs more space" (gmctavish)

Well Opponauts, I've put up an ad for my Volvo, and any of you are welcome to buy my car if you made it up here to Canadialand. But mostly I'd like you guys to review my post as if it were any other NPOCP. But a more serious one, as opposed to, say, a purple Buick LeSabre Hearse that was at one time an ice cream truck, advertised for $10,000 due t0 "collectibility".
I'm just not sure about my asking price, I mean, I'm flexible on it, but I honestly don't know if I'm too low or too high, it's just what I would like to get to let go of the car. Anyways, here's my baby.

EDIT: Here's what I used to judge my price initially

Sorry to see you part with it, looks very trim. Your ad and price are pretty good: should attract the buyer you want. I'd say NP.
Which is what I expected. Oppos don't smoke Crack Pipe.

First, very good ad. Great detail and pics!
As for value, umm.. Im not entirely sure. Down in Florida, someone has one that has been sitting for a while
for sale for $2500
.. so thats what Im trying to go off.
Id say your price is quite fair and if I had the money Id be flying to Canada tonight to get it!

Yeah there are some edges she's rough around, but I've seen far worse 240s, let alone 140s. But thanks, I'm hoping it'll get the right person, my main problem is Vancouver just isn't big enough to have many old-Volvo-that-isn't-an-1800 enthusiast :p

I wouldn't pay that much, but it isn't CP.

Yeah I've only ever seen one in nearly perfect condition, but an auto, up for $4000 in Seattle, so I'd say I'm safely in the middle of those....cool! Too bad you don't, I'd love for her to go to a fellow oppo-goer

I'd say your chances of selling it in Van are better than almost anywhere else in Canada. Somehow I have the perception that old Volvos would be more popular in the capital of British California.

You're probably right, unfortunately all I've got so far is a couple who didn't have the space, a flipper, and the usual "I'm interested send more pics" followed by no reply :/ But we'll see what happens!

Considering the rust is one winter away from being a significant problem, I'd pay $2500, although I'd prefer 2000 or 2200. the rusty master cylinder is what really devalues it for me, it makes the car seem a lot more neglected than it apparently is.

Hence why I'm trying to sell to someone with a garage. This thing was kept inside until 2009, I think, so this rust has only just showed up. I've had it about a year, but I won't have a garage any time soon so I won't be able to halt this rust. The master cylinder could've been dealt with, but I didn't want to repaint that and have one part look newer than everything else since the car is so original. But I get where you're coming from. $2500 is about the bottom of what I'd take for her, but my price is also for all my spare parts, so that would only get you the car.

C'mon, you can't halve my price without saying why

it needs a lot of work no matter how clean it looks. I would go into this car to work on it and make it as nice as possible. $3800 is just way too high. $1500 is what I personally see here so far and not actually being there to give it a go0d look.

I put it up at 32, not 38....I figure the lowest I'd take is $2500, spare parts extra. Keep in mind it's a 140, and an S, not just some 240. I don't want to disagree with the Volvo mechanic, but I feel like you're getting your numbers from a few years ago, or maybe 140s are more plentiful in your area. This is a car you can daily drive, not a project. Just could be if you wanted it to. Thanks for your input though

$3000 Canadian.
My thoughts:
1. Engine bay looks rough which makes me question engine condition. If you want to ask more, clean and paint some stuff at the very least. I don't think this will ever be a high dollar car so worrying about the factory zinc plating on the brake booster, etc is a non-issue.
2. Doesn't look like you replaced the entire exhaust. Looks like a new muffler on old pipe.
3. Body has bubbles but the undercarriage actually isn't too bad.
Honestly? Spend an afternoon cleaning and polishing the car! Your time could be worth a few hundred bucks.

I plan on polishing and such, good idea. The entire exhaust was replaced from the manifold back, it had just been sitting at a shop since the 1970s so it doesn't look as new. I was shocked by the undercarriage and how solid this thing is, thanks for the input!

Wait, am I reading this right? The exhaust is from the 70s? It was an NOS part?

Yup, original Volvo replacement exhaust that was at a Volvo shop for 30 years or so in storage

NP all the way. What a beautiful car. Of course there are some spots and it's not in mint condition, but this machine was crafted in 1969 and for that it looks great.
